I guess I dimly was aware of an alternative musical group called Sweet Maya back in the 70s and 80s, but I never actually attended any of their concerts, nor did I purchase their music. But then, I caught up with many a hit television series, usually a decade after they actually were an item.Sweet Maya, like Sweet Corn, produce a style of music that is impossible to classify; and that's a good thing. If we could classify or analyze love, it just wouldn't be any fun. As Wordsworth warned, "We murder to dissect." And he wasn't referring to biological dissection.Sweet Maya's music is sweet and mellow enough to meditate by, soft and melodious enough to read or work quietly with it in the background.Janice Lakers, who sang, played the flute, the drum, the piano and other instruments is still amazing as the musical director at Kalamazoo's Unity Church.As John Keats wrote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever."
