This CD contains some of Shirley Collins' earliest recordings, made at the time she was collecting folk songs with Alan Lomax. Collins' later recordings, where she combined folk styles with soft rock and early music practices are interesting and valuable in themselves. Here, she performs in an unapologetic traditional style reflecting the early folk revival, and the results are clean and moving. Listeners who like the old ballads without artificial embellishments will appreciate this album.
